Results FAQs

Which sections have to pass in order for the Medal to be awarded?

A minimum of two Passes is required for a Medal to be awarded. One of these Passes must be in the Ensemble section.

How long will I have to wait for my results?

We aim to issue results two weeks after the date we receive them in the office.

What will my pupil/child receive after taking their Music Medals assessment?

Successful candidates receive a certificate, commentary and medal. Candidates who are Working Towards their Music Medal receive a commentary.

What happens to my results once I have sent them to ABRSM?

The information from the report form(s) is checked and transferred to our computer system. The moderation protocol is then used to decide whether any of the results are to be reviewed by a moderator. Once this has been completed, certificates and commentaries are printed and despatched with the medals.

Can I see what changes the moderator has made?

Yes. Log on to the entries and results website and choose Moderated Results from the menu at the top of the page.

What should I do if I am not happy with the changes made by the moderator?

Firstly, check that your assessments complied with the regulations:

  • At least two sections must pass for a Medal to be awarded
  • The Ensemble section must pass for a Medal to be awarded
  • All three sections must achieve Excellent for an overall Excellent to be awarded (Bronze to Platinum levels only)

If you wish to appeal against the moderator’s decision, you must write to ABRSM within 14 days of the release of the result. A fee will normally be payable and this will be refunded if the appeal is upheld.
