Where can I find the syllabus for Music Medals assessments?

All the information is available on this website. There are repertoire lists for the Ensemble and Solo sections for each instrument.

How do I know which pieces to choose?

Check the syllabus repertoire lists which you will find on this website. You can also use the search tool to check which publications contain pieces set for the assessments.

Where can I buy Music Medals publications?

Your local music retailer may stock them. Alternatively, go to the ABRSM website where you can find full details and buy online.

The Ensemble I have chosen is a trio with 3 lines marked CC(C). What do the brackets mean?

The brackets indicate that the line is Copper level and must be played, but it cannot be assessed for the purposes of a Medal.

The Ensemble I have chosen has a line marked (T). What does this mean?

The line should be played by the Teacher-Assessor, although it may also be played by a suitably advanced pupil.

Can I arrange or transcribe the ensemble parts for other instruments?

Yes. You may arrange lines excepting the line taken by the candidate. Please view Regulation 14g which gives further information.

Does the Solo have to be accompanied?

Candidates may play either with an accompaniment (live or CD backing track) or unaccompanied.

Do repeats have to be played?

This is at your discretion. However, those repeats that are essential to the musical structure must be observed.

Can the teacher play a line in the Ensemble?

Yes. The Teacher-Assessor may play a line in the Ensemble. The only restriction is that the Teacher-Assessor may not play a line in a duet at Silver, Gold or Platinum level.

Can more than one pupil play each line in the Ensemble?

No. No doubling of lines is permitted.
