8   Parental permission and uses of video footage

a. Before assessments may take place, Music Medals Partners must have ensured that permission to video-record each participating child has been obtained from parents/guardians.

b. The process of obtaining parental permission is usually undertaken by the applicant. It is the Music Medals Partner’s responsibility to establish a system for this process on behalf of the applicant. ABRSM has no involvement in this process, although a sample consent form is available online.

c. Confirmation that parental permission has been obtained for each participating child must be made during online entry. Entry cannot proceed unless the applicant confirms this.

d. The applicant confirms consent to the copyright of video-recordings of Music Medals assessments passing to ABRSM.

e. ABRSM is eager to ensure that the purposes and use of Music Medals video-recordings are fully understood when parents/guardians give their consent to their children being filmed and that good practice is adopted, not only with regard to gaining parental consent but also in the subsequent handling of video footage. A policy document, Uses and Security of Video Footage for Music Medals, is available online.
