1. Who makes the recordings?

The filming is carried out by the Teacher-Assessor.

2. Who has access to the video recordings?

At various stages after filming, the video-recordings may be handled or viewed by any or all of the following people:

  • The Teacher-Assessor
  • A Music Medals Co-ordinator
  • ABRSM staff
  • ABRSM moderators

3. For what purposes are the video recordings used?

The recorded material has two uses:

  1. Moderation - this is the primary use; for the majority of candidates moderation is the only time when the recording of their assessment will be viewed.
  2. Archiving - a sample of recordings, covering all levels, instruments and standards, is retained by ABRSM in order to build up a record of standards in compliance with accreditation requirements.

4. What action is taken to safeguard the security of the video recordings?

ABRSM makes video-recordings available only to those formally connected with Music Medals as listed above.  The security of the recorded material is controlled in the following ways:

1. Agreement to abide by Music Medals Regulations

All of the above agree to abide by the Music Medals Regulations, thus confirming that they will not make use of the video-recordings for any purpose other than those described in the Regulations and that they will not make copies or distribute them in any format.

2. Secure storage

Tapes and discs are held securely in appropriate storage facilities.

3. Online security

Uploaded video files remain in a secure area of the Music Medals website which may only be accessed by ABRSM office staff and moderators with a confidential password.

5. How is the process of gaining parental consent carried out?

ABRSM requires those submitting a Music Medals entry to confirm at the time of entry that they have obtained written consent from the parents/guardians of all candidates being entered.  The process of gaining written consent is the responsibility of the person or organization making entries.  However, in order to assist in this process, ABRSM makes available a sample parental consent form outlining the uses of the recordings.
